Damilola’s dream was to be part of a movement that improved the world. At his death the family and the investigation were met by a wall of silence. Since Damilola’s death many other victims have encountered this wall. Leaving them to suffer.
It may be that in the early days the wall of silence was designed to protect communities. Now, it is clear that criminal elements are working behind the wall in order to recruit and abuse our young people.
Young people themselves have little understanding of what this wall of silence is about. Many only believe its about “grassing.” Really its about ejecting or staying away from anyone that will cause harm to the community.
The Damilola Taylor Trust believe that it is time to have a full discussion about:
- WHY THIS WALL EXISTS
- WHAT BONDS IT TOGETHER.
- WHO IT IS MEANT TO PROTECT
- WHERE IT CAN BE APPLIED
You can join in the debate by using the bulletin boards by clicking here.
The bulletin board is designed to be a discussion between the Old and New school of thought. Giving young people an understanding of how to identify and address the risks posed by would be recruiters, who they think is their friend. It allows us the opportunity to have a challenging discussion with schools, police, authorities, the community and ourselves in order to remould and defend the community to make it a better place.
